PREAMBLE For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes:
To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of American; to maintain law and order; to foster perpetrate a one hundred percent Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our association in the wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to Community, State, and Nation; to combat the autocracy of both classes and the masses; to make right the Master of Might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard transmit to posterity, the principles of justice, freedom, and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by devotion to mutual helpfulness.
ARTICLE I Section 1 – Name: The name of the organization shall be known as Donald J. Memorial Post # 178, Farmingdale NJ 07727-0178 The American Legion Department of New Jersey. By-Laws Section 1 - Regular Post Meetings: The regular Post meetings shall be held on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm. All third Wednesday evenings shall be reserved for the American Legion Post #178. (5) Members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. Section 2 – Special Meetings:
A special meeting of the Post may be called by the Commander or by a majority vote of the Executive Committee, upon three (3) days written notice to members of the Post, advising of the time, place, and purpose. No other business will be transacted.
Section 3 – Request for Special Meeting: Post Commander must call a special meeting, upon written request of (5) Post members, stating the purpose of such meeting
Section 4 - Order of Business: The order of business at meetings of the Post shall be as followed:
(a) Roll call of Officers (b) Reading of the minutes of previous meeting (c) Committee Reports (d) Sick Call (e) unfinished business (f) Balloting of applications (g) Initiation of Candidate (h) New business (i) Good of the Legion Meeting opening ritual and order of business shall be as prescribed by the Official Commander's Handbook. Section 5 - Committees:
The Post Commander immediately upon taking office each year shall appoint the following committees and such other special committees as he deems necessary, with the approval of Post membership. (a) Americanism (b) Boys State (c) Child Welfare (d) Children & Youth (e) Entertainment (f) Finance (g) Graves (h) Hospitals (i) Housing (j) Membership (k) Public Relations (l) Rehabilitation (m) Service (n) Security (o) Uniform Units
(q) Sons of the American Legion (r) Veteran Memorial Park (s) Ways and Means (t) Disaster and Relief (u) Memorial Day
(v) Oratorical (w) Boy Scouts
Such committees shall consist of such members and chairman therefore as shall be designated by the Commander. Immediately following the appointment, all committees shall organize and carry out the programs as outlined by National Department, and Post Organization. Section 6 - Executive Committee Meetings: (a) The meeting of the Executive Committee shall be held on the third Wednesday of each month held hour before the regular Post Meeting starts. Excluding holidays at which time they will held on the following meeting day. And at such other time a the Committee may deem necessary. (b) Commander shall call a special meeting of the Committees upon written request from (3) or more members of the committee. (c) The meeting of the executive committee may be an executive sessions. Any member of the Post may attend and may present matters of the Post interest when called upon by the Commander, but only the Committees members have a vote at these meetings. (d) Three (3) members to the Committee shall constitute a quorum.
Article II Section 1 - objective: The objective and purpose if this Post shall to promote the principles and publicities set forth in the National and Department Constitutions of the American Legion.
